Opportunity to grow with Growing NAVIS

Continuing the success of the SEAGAL project, which aimed to set up the NAVIS Centre, European Union has just agreed to fund the Growing NAVIS project through its Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). This is a very important project to develop NAVIS to be an international recognizable GNSS centre. Growing NAVIS costs nearly 760,000 EUR and includes 10 partners, which are:

  • Istituto Superiore Mario Boella, Italy;
  • Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam;
  • Politecnico di Torino, Italy;
  • Universitat Polytecnica de Catalunya, Spain;
  • Université de Franche-Comté, France;
  • Institute of Geodesy and Navigation, Germany;
  • University of New South Wales, Australia;
  • Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand;
  • National Science and Technology Development Agency, Thailand;
  • National Space Agency, Malaysia.

The main tasks of the project includes:

  • Research activities (relative to the project) will be conducted in the NAVIS Centre as well as in the European partner Institutions and in Australia.
  • Awareness activities consisting in three workshops will be conducted in South East Asia (Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam)
  • Training activities: consisting in
    • One Summer School to be attended by ASEAN experts in Vietnam
    • Training courses for Asian experts in the NAVIS Centre in Vietnam
    • Training periods offered to staff, post docs, and students in the European partner institutions
  • Dissemination activities in conferences and workshops throughout the world, with a particular focus on events in the Asia-Pacific Region such as the APRSAF and the related Multi-GNSS Workshop.
  • Networking activities with European and ASEAN Institutions in Europe and in ASEAN Member States with particular attention to the activities carried on and promoted by the SCOSA-COST Committees of the ASEAN.

The project lasts for 30 months with the kick-off meeting being held in Turin, Italy on March 23-24, 2012.
