Summer School on Multi-GNSS Environment for Sustainable Development, Hoi An, Sep 9-13, 2013

A one-week Summer School entitled “Multi-GNSS environment for sustainable development” will be organized in Vietnam in September 2013 in the framework of the activities of G-NAVIS, a project co-funded by the EU in the FP7.

The School will be held in Hoi An (a UNESCO world heritage city near Da Nang), Vietnam, from 9 to 13 September 2013, but the opening will take place the evening of Sunday 8 September.

The Summer School is intended for researchers, technicians, PhD students, Public and private decision makers who operate in GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, COMPASS) and RNSS (QZSS, GAGAN, etc.) related fields and are willing to increase their knowledge on GNSS.

In order to participate in the school, working and/or study experience in GNSS related activities is requested.

The school is organized by the G-NAVIS Consortium, which is constituted by the following Institutions: Istituto Superiore Mario Boella (Italy) acting as coordinator, Politecnico di Torino (Italy), Universidad Politecnica de Catalunya (Spain), Université de Franche-Comté (France), Universitaet der Bundeswehr Muenchen (Germany), Hanoi University of Science and Technology (Vietnam), Asia Institute of Technology (Thailand), National Science and Technology Development Agency (Thailand), Agensi Angkasa Negara (Malaysia), University of New South Wales (Australia).

Experts form these institutions and possibly from other relevant Agencies will provide the instructors for the School.

The activities:

  • Technical sessions are intended for attendants with a solid technical knowledge of GNSS and will provide information on different important topics of GNSS with technical details and insight.
  • Introduction to GNSS sessions are intended for attendants that are somehow familiar with GNSS related activities, but have less specific background on GNSS technology and are willing to brush up their expertise on different aspects of the use of GNSS.
  • Working groups.
  • Industry presentations and applications (ITS, maritime, rail, LBS, remote sensing, timing etc.).
  • Presentation of the results of working groups.

“Technical sessions” and “Introduction to GNSS” sessions will be conducted in parallel ad attendants have to choose, in the application stage, which group of lectures they are willing to attend.

The total number of attendees will be limited to 25-30 people. The number of participants in each group will be at most 20. The Growing NAVIS Project will fund the participation of one participant from the following countries: Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, and Singapore. The application period is from 20 March 2013 to  15 June 2013.

Selection process will take place from 16 June to 30 June.

From 1 July successful applicants will be notified.

Successful applicants have to confirm their participation by e-mail and pay within 15 days a 100 Euro not refundable fee to the NAVIS Centre. This fee will be however deducted from the costs (accommodation, meals, etc.) that will be charged to the participants. Participants supported by the G-NAVIS Project (as specified below) will have the enrollment fee reimbursed during the school. If the 100 Euro fee is not received by the NAVIS Centre in due time by a selected applicant, he/she will be dismissed and another possible applicant in reserve list will be contacted for participation in the school.

For the selection process, applicants will be screened against the following criteria:

  • Working/study experience in GNSS related activities
  • Education background in GNSS related fields

The selection will however consider also the following criteria:

  • Allow, if possible, the participation of attendees form all the ASEAN Member States;
  • Allow, if possible, participation from other Countries.
